I am extremely left on some issues and extremely right on some issues. I cannot be labeled. I am for solutions instead of taking counts of who sits where.

I'm a fiscal conservative, but a moderate-to-liberal in social issues. I'm a Libertarian.

Your definitions are based on lies and what must be drug-induced perceptions or brainwashing. Nothing could be further from the truth and you know it.

LOL. And of course, kevinm is the almighty oracle of the meaning and application of the Constitution.

Seriously, the last politician who actually seemed to strictly construe the literal words of the Constitution was Grover Cleveland. You would therefore be saying almost every politician since has been a liberal. That renders it a not very useful word.

There's lots of "label bashing" on this board" and it annoys me. I've been called everything from a socialist to a communist because I don't agree with the republicans. Want to know where I stand?

On social issues: Here's my corrupt liberal lifestyle--I've been married for nearly 25 years to the same person, and we have 5 kids. We go to church at least weekly--I teach Sunday School, and also teach a bible study class for preteens on Wednesdays after school. My husband is on our church board. We don't drink, smoke, or do drugs.

We believe parenting is our most important job--as a result, our children are good students, good athletes, good leaders, polite, kind and well behaved.

My husband and I both put ourselves through college with financial aid, scholarships, and student loans--no additional help from family. When we finished our undergrads, we worked second jobs to pay off the loans, then I worked to put DH through grad school (with no loans). I went to grad school at night through an employer. We worked second jobs again to come up with the downpayment for our first house. While we were doing this, and both of us were working, we were investing one of our incomes from full time work, and living off the other. By the time we could start a family, I could comfortably leave my job and work from home. My DH is in an upper level management position, and I am self employed. We are in our early 50's with NO personal debt except for a small amount left on our home, and substantial savings/investments--enough to put 5 kids through college plus fund a comfortable retirement.

Yeah, I'm looking for a hand out

The part that makes me "liberal"? I don't think the government has the right to force my life choices and beliefs, or those of anyone else, down our throats--that's BIG GOVERNMENT at it's worst. I support some more liberal leaning issues, like gay rights, because I don't think discrimination follows Christ's teachings.

Here's my corrupt liberal economic viewpoint: I believe in responsible, efficient government. I believe government has an important role to play--it creates order from chaos, but it needs to be managed like a business--if you can't make a compelling case that a program creates a benefit, then why are you doing it? You have to be willing to pay for things as you go, unless it's taking on debt for an investment that will have a much larger long term payoff. THAT is a true conservative position.

The position I see coming out of the R's (who call themselves conservatives?) Cut taxes and cut spending.

Ok....If you reduce your income, you need to take the cuts your proposing even further to make up the difference--social programs are a drop in the bucket, plus rioting in the streets and looting because people are homeless and hungry doesn't exactly create a conducive environment for business growth and stability. What's it going to be? The military? I haven't heard a plan--there doesn't seem to be one. Just "hope for the best, slash and not think" is not an acceptable business model. There's also nothing conservative about it.

Care to throw around any more labels?

I’m definitely socially liberal and a moderate in other areas. I don't care what two or more people decide to do in their bedroom or their lifestyle. And I don't want anybody telling me how to live my life as long as I don't infringe on their personal rights and freedoms.
I'm:

Pro-choice

Pro-same sex marriage

I'm for the legalization and taxation of marijuana

I'm for some sort of guest worker program that allows undocumented workers who are currently in this country to get documented, pay their taxes, and if they so desire have a path to citizenship provided that have not committed a serious misdemeanor or felony.

I'm for equal rights for all Americans without regard to religion, national origin, race, sex, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.

When it comes to guns and gun control as long as you are NOT a habitual criminal or convicted felon I have no problem with people owning guns provided they are licensed according to the laws of their state and can operate their firearms safely.

I'm for the supremacy of federal laws over state laws, primarily because state laws have historically been used to deny certain groups of Americans their constitutional rights.

I'm for the Supreme Court and federal courts settling matters of constitutionality. They prevent people in America from using the "Tyranny of the Majority" to target certain groups of people and deny them their rights.

I'm a firm believer in the concept of the separation of church and state. I'm firmly against any religious group using government to advance a particular religious agenda.

I believe the rich should be tax at higher rates than the poor. They benefit the most from the economic and financial system in this country and they should step up and pay a greater share of the burden.

I think that there should be government programs to help people that are poor. By help I don't mean just doling out checks, but programs to help empower them, educate them and give them an opportunity to better themselves financially.

I think a more serious look should be taken at charter schools and school choice. The current way that education is taught and administered is a mess. Teachers need to be evaluated and incompetent teachers need to help and if they beyond help sent packing. There needs to a serious look taken at the inequality between rich school districts in this country and poor schools. Educational opportunity in the United States is now segregated based on income.

I think all Americans should have access to health care and it should be individual based NOT employer based, I think there should be a public option.

I'm for government regulations that protect Americans against:

unfair labor practices,

discriminatory practices based on religion, national origin, race, sex, sexual orientation, disablity or ethnicity.
unsafe working conditions,

people who pollute the environment,

insure the sanitary and safe processing of food.,

insure that drugs are safely tested BEFORE they come on the market place,

prevent predatory and unfair credit and lending practices

prevent non-transparent financial markets

prevent inherently unfair market practices in financial and other consumer or commercial markets.

I'm for net neutrality religion, national origin, race, sex, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.

I'm for a national defense policy that ends the United States playing "Super Cop" it's too expensive and it's about time other countries step up and pay the freight in terms of their own national security. The United States defensive posture needs to concentrate on defending America first and foremost and only using preemptive force when there is clear, present and identifiable threat to America or American people. This starts with SECURING OUR BORDERS!

I’m for government research and subsidies for alternative clean fuel research. I’m against the current subsidies for the petroleum industry.

Clicking the broad brush selection of "somewhat conservative" was about as close as I could get. In some ways I'm very conservative, in other ways I'm not conservative at all. I never vote straight tickets. I'm not a bandwagon kind of guy, and that extends to voting.

Why are some getting so offended from a question? There's no reason to get defensive, I was just trying to get an idea of where people stand. I'm not "labelling" anyone, so calm down. Jeez.

Politically I'm something most Americans would not understand. I'm a very liberal conservative. I'm a huge supporter of just about any social advance that makes the country a better place to live. I'm always in favour of any policies that I view as being, toward a more just society and that just about defines liberalism. However I am strongly in favour of fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget. These things are not mutually exclusive. We had a budget surplus for 11 straight years up to last year and yet we have extensive social programs. Now the previous liberal government did cut back on social spending in order to balance the budget and along with it reduced taxes. I'm not in favour of that at all because it's a false saving of money and it ends up costing more in the long run. An example of this is taking money out of health care. Wait times for surgery end up costing a lot more money for a lot of reasons. Expensive treatments while waiting. Less sucessful outcomes from the delayed surgery and other reasons.

Canada is in a very good position going forward though. We have immense resourses that are only becoming more and more valuable as the world continues to develop. Oil and gas, minerals, water, timber and a large farm sector. These exports bring in a lot of revenue that can be spent on social programs. Another big plus is that Canada has very few people, less than California. So ya, that's what I am a liberal conservative.
