The reason for the increases is the new federal health reform mandates, according to Anthem and the state Department of Insurance, which is defending its approval against charges by Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.
Sullivan has responded by saying the rates include "very rich benefits" required by federal law.
"If the attorney general wants to complain to someone, he should be complaining to Congress."
Why yes, I guess he should be talking to congress and obama about this.
This was predicted, this is inevitable, all because obama and the dems have decided THEY know better when it comes to YOUR choices in HC.
And the biggest rate increases went to those who had low cost, low benefit plans. Because now those plans must include the elimination of lifetime caps, no cost preventative care, extension to dependents up to age 26.
So, the ones who are hurt the most are not those already fully insured. But the ones with the 'discount' plans (perhaps because that's all they could afford already?).
Looks like another waiver was needed, a la McDonalds.
"I find myself in an unprecedented place and time, as do my counterparts throughout the country, in overseeing one of the most far-reaching policy initiatives enacted by the federal government in recent history," Sullivan said in the letter. "It is unfortunate that this reform, while addressing insurer behavior, has provided little to no reform of the escalating costs of the health care delivery system."
Won't bend the cost curve down, won't lower premiums, won't allow you to keep what you like...a complete disaster....and the democrats and obama OWN it.
