Some people have a "natural proclivity" for being able to spell good, read fast, learn a new language easily, use either hand with equal ease, etc. Some people can do none of those things easily. Some people cannot carry a tune. Many people cannot read music or play a musical instrument, in spite of having had lessons as a child. Some people are excitable and have short tempers while others are calm and cool. I see homosexuality as a "natural proclivity" for sexual attraction to one's own sex in that it is "natural" for them. I would guess that most homosexuals see their attraction to their own sex this way and that very few had any real choice in the matter.

But then every human being is born as a heterosexual with instinct built in knowing how to participate in sexual intercourse with the opposite sex with no need to be taught? If so, why does there so often need to be a discussion about the birds and the bees?

It's comments like this that contribute to the high number of gay teen suicides.

Comments like these really re-affirm the fact that homosexuality is a mental illnesss.

Only to those with limited experience studying mental illness.

In a world where people who talk to and believe in an omnipotent invisible man in the sky surrounded by ladies with wings that play harps all days aren't given a raised eyebrow, however, it makes you wonder how effective the "you have a mental illness" label REALLY is.

Don't be bashful now, post your credentials as a mental health professional.

As for your second paragraph, I'm agnostic.

Maybe to ignorant people who are clueless about the study of human sexuality.

The poster doesn't have to post his credentials as a mental health professional since he's in agreement with the majority of mental health organizations. If you think homosexuality is a mental illness, you have nothing to refer to other than some anti-gay religious organizations who have no peer-reviewed studies to back up their claims.
