That deafening silence you hear are women's groups like NOW. Oh, that's right. "It's their country, their laws". I forgot human rights and basic decency stop at the border.
Any married couple with a marriage license has a marriage that legally recognized by the government. In order for that marriage to be legally dissolved there are only two ways for that to happen by the issuing of death certificate for a spouse and by the legal process of divorce or annulment.
People need to keep in mind that in the eyes of the government married is a LEGAL union between two people. A marriage performed by a religious cleric without a marriage license is NOT legally recognized by the government.

The aforementioned incident happened in Saudi Arabia, hence my comment.

Is this thread a joke? NOW must now protest one divorce in Saudi Arabia? Is that what you want? There are many Muslim marriages in which women are treated unfairly. There are many non-Muslim marriages in which women are treated unfairly. NOW, and many other organizations work to promote equality regardless of religion.

What you write is true in the USA. The article was about a country where Islamic marriage & divorce laws apply.

The pain caused by this insect's sting is purported to be greater than that of any other Hymenopteran, and is ranked as the most painful according to the Schmidt Sting Pain Index, given a 4+ rating, above the tarantula hawk wasp.
(They call it a bullet ant because when one stings you, it feels like you've been shot....with a bullet.)
It is described as causing "waves of burning, throbbing, all-consuming pain that continues unabated for up to 24 hours
The Satere-Mawe people of Brazil use intentional bullet ant stings as part of their initiation rites to become a warrior.[6] The ants are first rendered unconscious by submerging them in a natural sedative and then hundreds of them are woven into a glove made out of leaves (which resembles a large oven mitt), stinger facing inward. When the ants regain consciousness, a boy slips the glove onto his hand.
The goal of this initiation rite is to keep the glove on for a full ten minutes. When finished, the boy's hand and part of his arm are temporarily paralyzed because of the ant venom, and he may shake uncontrollably for days. The only "protection" provided is a coating of charcoal on the hands, supposedly to confuse the ants and inhibit their stinging. To fully complete the initiation, however, the boys must go through the ordeal a total of 20 times over the course of several months or even years
The OP is just trying to get a rise out of people.
