that is an old article. monsanto made the decision not to develop terminator technology, which was actually pioneered by another company.

I had an informative discussion with a gummit entomologist about 20 years ago where he convinced me biological controls would exceed the efficacy of any store-bought chemicals.

I didn't take notes.

Maybe just heresay.

But over that 20 year period, I did follow what research got Government funding and what didn't.

The priorities really are skewed toward Big Chem, and its sister, Big Pharma.

Big Ag, Big Chem and Big Pharma are all married to Big Government.

do you have some figures to present, or is this just more hearsay?

There is a vastly larger amount of unofficial data than there is official.

'Ceptin', of course what's been spoliated.

Well, first you have to brand 'em. Then its similar to cattle ranching.

For high tekkers, you just genetically program the little buggers.

Downsides:

Branding them would be labor intensive and probably result in the hiring of more illegals.

Who would want genetically modified worms running all over the country? God knows what that might result in!

Good points, all - but we're working on it.

feel free to present your 'unofficial' data, then.

the problem with biological control is that the agents involved tend to be highly specialized. so you can bring in a weevil that won't eat your corn but will eat a certain species of thistle... but you may have half a dozen different thistle species in your field, not to mention all the non-thistle weeds.

and each and every one of these biological control agents has to pass through a lengthy approval process to be sure they won't cause more problems than the problem they were brought in to solve.
