Those who book a flight know what is coming and if they don't like it then travel by some other means. She is in a no-win situation because if someone downs an airplane with something strapped to his arse, there was technology available to detect it, but it wasn't used because of whatever reason; she would be skewered for not using it.

Flying is a necessity for some people in order to be with their families which either live overseas or the distance by land would take a few days in each direction and people don't have time off from work for such long trips.
