In a recent and most excellent piece that ran in the Washington Post the other day, Eugene Robinson made note of the following:
This may become a point of contention as the unorthodox Republicans elected in the GOP wave come surfing into town. Wariness of "foreign entanglements," to use George Washington's phrase, is a prominent strain of Tea Party thought. The Republicans will have to deal with calls to cut Pentagon spending from their side of the aisle
As this article goes on to point out issues raised by the Debt Reduction Committee, the cost of our wars and occupations abroad, and the usual points of interest, there was another portion that leap off the page at me. Worth repeating, worth repeating.
Quote:
Overall, the federal budget is expected to run a $1 trillion deficit this year. In effect, we're borrowing money from China and using some of it to keep a measure of order in Afghanistan. This is allowing the Chinese to sign contracts and build infrastructure that will let them exploit Afghanistan's vast mineral wealth - while we repay the borrowed money with interest.
Lets not forget about AZ Republican Jon Kyl who wishes to add another 4.1 billion to the offense budget by modernizing our entire nuclear arsenal.
"The time has come to reduce military operations. The time has come to reduce the presence of, you know, boots in Afghanistan . . . to reduce the intrusiveness into the daily Afghan life," Karzai told The Post.
All right, then, let's save American lives and a ton of money. Let's oblige him.
Eugene Robinson, regardless of what he wrote or writes in the future is a reacist and a over the top lib.
Nita
So in other words, it has absolutely nothing to do with the words said, content of ideas, or the quality of thought, but it is instead all about who said it.
Which is one of the reasons this nation is heading towards a modern Dark Ages, as people are more concerned with personalities than substance.
Adolf Hitler endorses use of toilet paper, so now raise your hand if you are going to abstain since this idea was endorsed by a mad man. Anyone?

Yet some of these same bozos want to cut up to $40 million in funding to NPR in a "deficit reduction" move!
As I believe it was Henry Kissinger who once said, "There are some things more important than democracy, like eating"
I happen to think cutting NPR is nothing more than a political pop shot meant to stir the mouth breathers, as 40 million is just over 1/4 of what we send to Israel EVERY day in foreign aid. It's a joke but at the same time, there are bigger fish to fry.

YES WE CAN!
The dems talk about the money spent on our Military in the Middle East. Usually in response to budget cuts. If we cut OUR stuff you cut YOURS. (Nothing to do with morality or the Constitution mind you) That's it, all talk. One of the few redeeming policies they have and they won't do squat with it.
Who are the big gun dems who are actually passionate about this? Kucinich
anyone else?

Why is the federal government subsidizing organizations like NPR?
They can make it, or not, on their own.
I support cutting the defense budget by 25%, actually, a 25% cut (to start) across the board in discretionary spending.
