I really don't think taxing the rich will help the economy. Obama is thinking forward to 2012. Plus, there is a group of Republicans willing to end DADT, finishing START, and will support the DREAM Act. I think getting those things done now is more important than taxing the rich.
Pretty much every political analyst i've been following the past few days on both sides are pretty much agreeing with this that likely it will be an 11th hour deal where Obama kicks the can on the tax cuts for the wealthy and will get unemployment in exchange. With the tax cuts for the rich being the #2 reason for the economic crash next to the wars, the light slap on the wrist the average american will feel is well worth the much needed income that will be coming in from the elitists.

All of these "drops in a bucket" add up to a full bucket.
What are you talking about? Freezing federal pay would save $2 billion this year and $20 billion next year.

Banning earmarks, which Republicans also rejected, wouldn't save a dime. Banning earmarks would give the White House more control over spending, which is probably why Obama supported the earmark ban also.

We spend $750 billion on Medicare/Medicaid per year. We spend $650 billion, that we know, on Defence per year. We spend $680 billion on Social Security per year.

Them's the facts.
