Nobody should be surprised that agricultural chemicals have an effect on the enviornment. There is no such thing as a benign chemical, whether it's made by Monsanto or someone else.
So, the question becomes this: What's the point of going after Monsanto's Roundup? Even if the protestors were successful, some other chemical would be used in its place which would likely produce different deleterous effects.
I'm not defending Monsanto. Some of their business practices are abhorrent. But, without modern herbicides, it's possible we could not feed the worlds burgeoning population.

There are more effective means of pest control than chemical.
But, biological controls provide little profit to chemical companies.

You're missing the whole point. If anti-corporate loons in the US can make life difficult for US industries, they'll take their business to China or India where they can hire people for pennies on the dollar compared to US workers, never have to negotiate with a union, pollute all they like and still sell their products here in the US. The only real difference will be much higher profits and Americans will lose their jobs.
