CNN's Fareed Zakaria is taking Fox News' Glenn Beck to school.
On his Sunday show, Zakaria called Beck's assertion that 10 percent of Muslims are terrorists "total nonsense."

"What is the number of Islamic terrorists, one percent?" Beck asked on his radio show last week. "I think it's closer to 10 percent. Why isn't it receiving coverage?"

Zakaria pulled out his electronic chalkboard to teach Beck a lesson.
"Let's do a bit of math here," Zakaria said. "There are 1.57 billion Muslims worldwide. Take 10 percent of those Muslims and you get 157 million. That's how many Muslim terrorists Glenn Beck is suggesting there are in the world, 157 million. Beck wondered why this wasn't receiving any media coverage. We'll let me suggest one reason. It is total nonsense. A figure made up by Glenn Beck with absolutely no basis in fact," he said.

But guess what? BECK WAS RIGHT! According to World Public Opinion, you know the organization whose results are being used on this very forum to show how "misinformed" FOX news viewers are.

Once again, BECK WAS RIGHT! Read the link.

I think the link talks about those who support terrorism, not who is a terrorist. Big diff.

Terrorism: "the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature" Oh, and threat and support are not synonyms, so supporting it and threatening are two different things.

Terrorist - a radical who employs terror as a political weapon; usually organizes with other terrorists in small cells.

In other words, the blog you quoted stretched the truth about what is considered terrorists and terrorism. Also, don't forget, America has it's own Christian and other non-Muslim terrorists within the U.S. So, why are Muslims the only targets? The only thing this shows is racism in the U.S. is alive and well. Are there Muslim terrorists? Yes, but there are other terrorists we should be worried about as well. Yet, none of you (nor Beck) are mentioning them.

It takes a truly epic paranoid wingnut lunatic to think 157 million people are after just you.

I found the following the most important part of this article.

Quote:
But Beck's producer tried to get Beck off the hook by explaining that Dictionary.com's definition of terrorist includes people who advocate or support terroris.
This is the point I often try to make about the media selling America fear by the bucket. People who advocate or support terrorist? This is a clear example of media trying to deliberate conflate and hype "terror" in any form in order to maintain a sense of fear.

1.
a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates terrorism.
2.
a person who terrorizes or frightens others.
3.
(formerly) a member of a political group in russia aiming at the demoralization of the government by terror.
4.
an agent or partisan of the revolutionary tribunal during the Reign of Terror in France.

Ever have an uncle jump out from behind a door and scare the kids? Terrorizing them? Guess what, terrorist. Ridiculous, yes, absurd, yes, but using this definition.

Ever scared your spouse, co worker or family member? You're a terrorist.

Now most of you will read this and agree, this is a totally absurd manner of contextualizing the word terrorist, as we all somewhat assume to know what it is were talking about. However when a news channel deliberate and intentionally uses these more extreme and absurd aspects of the definition, then you have to ask yourself, why and for what purpose.

Selling fear in America has been raised to an art form.
