I grew up in NYC and I do recall blizzards..especially when school was in session.
Ah those glorious snow days..nothing moved for a day. By the 2nd day though the salt trucks had turned the streets into mush.

Most of these problems could have been prevented by simply having steam-heated sidewalks and streets.

Copahue: Heated Streets - PATAGONIA, ARGENTINA

City Planners need to be tested for drugs.

We have more snow where I am and it never makes the news. And if the streets don't get plowed quick enough we don't go all wussie about it.

They seem to think so. Even Jersey has a gripe since their Gov was out of town at the time..like he planned it on purpose ?

NJ gov, NYC mayor feel the heat after the blizzard - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101229/ap_on_bi_ge/us_winter_weather - broken link)
"With many streets still unplowed, New Yorkers are griping that their billionaire mayor is out of touch and has failed at the basic task of keeping the city running, while New Jersey's governor is taking heat for vacationing at Disney World during the crisis."

After paying such high taxes the people of NY expect their streets cleaned after such a storm. I for one can't blame them.
