U.S. proposes to open roads to Mexican trucks | Reuters

The Transportation Department's compromise seeks to revive efforts to fulfill a key provision of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which is highly unpopular with labor but supported by many businesses as a cost advantage.

This could lead to the mother of all US labor strikes!

Another tack in his 2012 coffin. I think his 'advisors' must be trying to get rid of him?

He is alienating almost everybody but the pole**okers.

Yea, the cross-border trucking program is actually a part of NAFTA. Truth is, conservatives are generally FAR MORE in favor of this program than Liberals have ever been. Bush wanted to do it (there is some major construction money for it in Texas) but got pretty hard pushback from Congress...surprisingly, many of them Republican.

Supposedly, it's supposed to decrease the cost of goods. Personally, i think it's just one more way to screw the American Trucker myself.
