yay NAFTA.

In the latest effort to accommodate its cherished trade partner in the south, the U.S. government is paying to upgrade outdated Mexican trucks that hemorrhage illegal amounts of exhaust on their trips north to deliver merchandise.

The Mexican trucks enter the U.S. under a 17-year-old international trade pact known as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and they’ve created an air pollution crisis. The air quality in border towns has been especially impacted by the exorbitant levels of exhaust released by the Mexican trucks, which also fail to meet American safety standards.

What in the F???? What kind of moron in our government approved this boondoggle? Sounds like there is one more thing that responsible adults can trim from Obama's budget. It's pretty simple-you want to operate a truck here, it needs to meet our safety and environmental standards.

The unbelievable story was reported this week by an Arizona newspaper that says replacing the old mufflers with new catalytic converters will reduce harmful diesel emissions by up to 30%.
Is ultra low sulpur diesel mandated in Mexico? Otherwise, the first time these rigs are filled with conventional diesel, those cat-cons are toast.

i suspect they'll be running low-grade mexican diesel, as it's gotta be much cheaper. hadn't thought about that, but you're likely right that they'll probably burn right thru these expensive upgrades.

your tax dollars at work folks.

"Since the Mexican truckers have no intention of fixing the problem, Uncle Sam has stepped in to save the environment. U.S. taxpayers have picked up the cost to replace old mufflers on dozens of trucks and many more are scheduled to be upgraded by the middle of this year."

Barry Soetoro (a.k.a. Barack Hussein Obama) is a dishonest, manipulative liar who actually is pursuing an agenda that he hopes will take America off the international leadership stage. He wants America to fail so that the vision of Internationalist socialists can be realized. America is hated by the elite intellectuals of the world because we have been the single biggest roadblock to their plans to establish a one world governing system with them in charge.

I recall a couple of years ago when Mexico was pushing for their truckers to be allowed on US interstates per NAFTA provisions and US truckers threatened a shutdown. What's stopping them?

I know, hell to pay, empty shelves in 48 hrs and all, but come on, this is insanity that this administration chooses to willfully put US truckers out of work and is using US tax dollars to fund it.
