HappyTexan----That so-called 'millionaires tax' was a disaster when the politicians in Maryland tried it last year.

The politicians in Oregon tried it recently, as the WSJ pointed out, and it was another spectacular failure.

Ah thanks Marv for pointing out the state.

Do these politicians really think people will just suck up and pay more when they have the choice to move somewhere else and not pay more ?

They really do think we're a bunch of lemmings with no brains and just checkbooks.

The hits keep coming:
Web businesses say they'll flee Illinois if sales tax is OK'd

Quote:
Some Illinois-based Web businesses were furious Thursday at a legislative plan that would require online retailers, such as Amazon.com and Overstock.com, to collect a 6.25 percent state tax if they have commissioned affiliates in the state.

That puts at risk huge revenue streams for such Illinois-based Web sites as FatWallet.com, CouponCabin.com and BradsDeals.com, which receive much of their commissions from sending customers to major online retailers. Their commissions are at risk because large retailers have shown in the past that they will sever business relationships with affiliates like those to avoid collecting state sales tax, called a use tax in Illinois, on products they sell.
Will the last person leaving the state please turn off the lights.

It appears that Il has the same problem that NJ has. Most of the political power is in the hands of highly populated urban areas dominated by old fashioned, corrupt political machines.

To them the suburbs and rural areas are nothing more than ATMs to fund their pet constituencies.

It can really destroy a state's financial health.

I think every state faces that challenge of the urban imbalance of power/votes vs. rural. Oh wait, most of the states are suffering financially.

Looks like our states will be taking in more fleeing tax refugees from Illinois. Now if they can just remember, when they get here, what caused them to flee their states and come to our conservative states so they don't turn our states into the disasters they just fled.
