My DH and I left the R party a few years back because of the nastiness coming out of it--although I don't agree with everything the D's do (at all) Obama had something to do with it. Calling on people to be their best and work for change is a lot more productive message than calling the other side evil.
I listen to people who are genuine in their beliefs and not just partisan hacks. I really like Marc Lamont Hill. His politics are polar opposite of mine, but I like to hear his views on things, and he's genuine.
I believe it was the "Who are the patriots?" speech or a similar very strong speech by Ron Paul that got him my attention and then I very quickly became a full-fledged libertarian.
Yes, Reagan clear back in 1966 or 67. I had never imagined myself supporting or voting for a Hollywood actor. But then I listened to what this man had to say and what he stood for. I have never regreated it for 1 second.
No,speeches do not influence me,actions and positions on issues do.
