LOS ANGELES COUNTY - Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released figures from the Department of Public Social Services showing that in November 2010, $53 million in welfare benefits ($22 million CalWORKs + $31 million in Food Stamps) were issued to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their native-born children in Los Angeles County.
.......
"When you add this to $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year -- not including the hundreds of millions of dollars for education," said Antonovich.
That's very noble of CA to provide that kind of support. But CA wants to do that so there shouldn't be any issues.
The taxpayers of CA are willing to bear the cost. Who are we to criticize them.
That's the beauty of states people. You CAN choose to live where you want.
I will have no comments either way on how CA wants to spend their money.
It's only if CA comes knocking on Uncle Sam's door for a bailout will I start to speak out.
The taxpayers of CA are willing to bear the cost. Who are we to criticize them.
The problem is that California is flat broke and then they'll want to be bailed-out (by taxpayers and people living in other States) as being "too big to fail".
There was talk long time ago about making Calif into two separate states...North and South.
Problem then was that southern Calif had the most money and of course the northern part needed the cash...you know the rest of the story.
Now it's the opposite. The north supports the south. Although I can't recall a time when the south ever had the most money - prior to 1990 the north and south were pretty equal, it's only been in the past 20 years that the south's become decidedly poorer than the rest of the state.

SF is the only major sanctuary city to my knowledge...could be wrong.
LA, Oakland, Berkeley, San Diego, San Bernardino, a few others. Except for SF, Oakland, Berkeley, and Santa Rosa, the rest are in SoCal.
