In 2014 it will be illegal for the health insurance companies to refuse to sell insurance to anyone based on pre-existing conditions. Health insurance market exchanges will be established to allow people to shop competitively for health insurance, and if you are unable to afford it, as long as your income is under 400 % of the poverty level, your premiums will be subsidized with a tax credit. This rebate will be paid directly to the health insurance company, lowering your monthly premiums.

Bascialy the pre-existing condition portition is in effect now. If your refused insurance then get a copy of the refusal and see your state health services and they can guide you. Kmow a perosn who died recently fromm cancer and he was insured in since October thru that. His cost has I recall was 400 dollars a month the rest subsidised by federal government In 2014 the state pools go into effect. Its depend on income level whether people will be subsidise and buy from the pools;unsubsidise thru pools or at lower levels placed on medicaid. The reason is because medicaid cost to states will rise and be subsidised thru 2017 when state will take over portion of increased medicaid cost.
