Black immigrants from Africa overall are superior in both work ethic and outcomes.
They are very successful like Asians are here. Our American born blacks (and everyone else) should copy the good things they do.

I can spit on the ground about the polish joke you might tell, or be annoyed by rude vendors with drunk irish tshirts. I can lament the old days about the potato famine. Did it directly happen to me? No.

African Americans native born in this country go on and on and on about slavery that happened in this country how long ago and ignore that it's happening in Africa/ Middle East/ Asia still? The attitude is why should I care? That's why I've just got to say I can't help but say they're FOS. What's really killing them is being passed by for promotions by black newcomers. Not only don't they seek out and create racism, their lack of chip on the shoulder makes onward and upward much easier than the self imposed handicap cultivated in 'the black community'.

If black isn't a relevant issue at all why is every thread mentioning black called racist?

Very well stated.

I've seen that with Americans and Jamaicans on the job as well as Mexicans(some American , some not) and Puerto Ricans among others.

Sad really.

Black American is a better descriptor. Or just American. Nothing African about today's 200+ year removed US-born and bred black folks.

Actually, their opinion has some merit.
I've had lots of friends go to Africa, and while there they asked African blacks what they thought of American blacks and the consensus was African blacks think American blacks are crazy.
Doesn't mean American blacks are crazy at all, just means there is nothing but maybe some DNA in common between African black culture and American black culture.
Also, look how when all the African blacks come here they are like the Asians instantly working and doing real well. They get wealthier here like the Asians who come here do.
Different cultures entirely.

I not so long ago spoke with a black woman I had met in the late 80's; in our long phone conversation, she spoke of a secret that "most white people" don't know, the tension between African immigrants and native black folks. She slammed their attitudes, cooking and speech (ugga bugga she called it). I was kind of taken aback by this; I have had and currently have African co-workers and they have been very nice people.

Point is, black people are like everyone else; they can engage in nativism too.

I'll still pass despite your opinion. I'm an African American. And no, that opinion has no merit because the only opinions that matter on this topic are the opinions of black folks. What non-blacks have to say about it may be interesting, but ultimately gets tossed in the trash heap. They don't get a say so.

As a matter of fact, African blacks in Africa have no say so either. Who are they? I hold their opinions on this matter in no higher regard than i hold the opinions of non-blacks here in America. If they want to chime in on important matters, they have a whole continent racked with problems to preoccupy their time. What black folks say or do here isn't within their purview. Yes, they're my brothers and sisters and we have a mutual understanding. I don't interfere in their affairs (unless asked), and they don't interfere in ours.

Over the years I have heard a couple of African-American coworkers refer to black West Indian immigrants as "coconuts". One of them was horrified when one of her brothers first married a Jamaican woman, but she got over it.

Wrong. Non-blacks opinions do count because there is a modern meme that only whites can engage in bigotry and nativism. Pointing out the proclivity towards nativism in blacks and other minorities simply shows that people are basically the same, the good and the bad.

The opinions of whites counts in the conversations between whites in the topic of whether or not i'm an African American or not. Their opinions don't count for didly squat within the black conversation on that particular topic.

As for whether or not African Americans and African immigrants are positively or negatively predisposed towards each other....shoot away. I find those observations from non-blacks to be interesting, laughable, and ridiculous, but this is a free country and those three things aren't illegal.

I don't see a single post on this topic where anyone said that black people and other minorities can't be bigoted and nativist. Hell, those are human traits, and unless you want to have a conversation about whether or not minorities are actually humans, that seems to be a waste of time.

I mean hell, let's just make up a thread and title it: "Black people actually breathe!" Or, "Black people eat food!" How about "Minorites cry when they're sad."

If this is an actual "controversy" thread, i sure as hell don't see what's so controversial about bigotry and nativism being universal. That is of course, unless a person is completely clueless.
