That's not really a rebuttal to Oerdin's point. It's more just a technical spin to try to win a partisan point.

Just admit it. Conservatives are mad that Obama saved the auto industry and now its thriving. I can't wait until 2012 rolls around and we get to remind voters in the Rust Belt that the GOP wanted to leave them all for dead.

Careful alert! Look below the numbers please. GM sold the volume of vehicles to fleet company's (Rental car places) and to the US Government. Now that fleet sales dropped in May and the US Government idled back purchases GM sales is kicking into low drive. Funny how stock price has a way of catching up with facts. While GM was recovering and flying high its best Customers were fleet sales and the US Goverment aka State and local governments. Where does GM go from here? China...nope they ran that PR game last year. Europe....Hmmm can you say Greece? So before GM claims victory in revolutionizing their company, history says not so fast. Let's give them two years of making profits before we blindly buy their stock. BTW. Its below the IPO price.....they owe you and me as tax payers a lot of money.

>>> Excellent way to prove his point. When the US government plays politics with the military, yes they are a failure. Korea, Viet Namh, Somalia, Mogadishu, Iraq, Afghanistan. Not complete faiures, but they get screwed over and prevented from succeeding.
Leave the US military alone and they'll succeed in anything they try to accomplish.

Nissan Leaf, Toyota Prius stomp Chevy Volt on green car list - Feb. 15, 2011
So in this thread you've cheered a negative article about an American car company staffed by middle class folks--some of whom I know--who are just making a living. (And don't call them lazy union employees. They work.) And you will continually root for their downfall, meaning the loss of homes and jobs of those same decent American folks. On top of that, you compared them to the East German Stasi. Disgusting.

And LIBERALS are accused of being unpatriotic! Sickening.

Carter's ill fated attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran with helicopters unable to operate in a sandstorm also comes to mind but who's counting.

The O/P made the connection between gov't run companies versus private in a linear form and that doesn't fly for me. Who would rationally think that the gov't has an oversight committee second guessing GM engineers, marketing or manufacturing decision makers in that company?

GM had the volt on the drawing boards long before Washington's involvement and it will either succeed or fail without interference from them.

I think the car will be a winner over the long haul and it's attractiveness to the individual user is governed more by it's practical design for usage on this continent than by it's ultimate "green score". Those who are governed by such a score would be riding bicycles anyway, wouldn't they?

All electric cars will fare better in European countries where the commute is generally not a big part of the day and where you can usually walk to the grocer's etc., on a daily basis to get your "messages" with smaller residential cold storage units being typical over there. Topography will also dictate to some measure your choice in a green vehicle.

This continent requires a vehicle that can perform a multitude of tasks all requiring some distance capabilities where the "dual motivation" aspect becomes more practical in my opinion.

Disregarding the preposterous price tag of the Volt (as compelling a reason as any as to why I'm inclined to consider it DOA), the atrocious finishes for the much-hyped Cruze in the current issues of both Motor Trend & Automobile Magazine (6th out of 8 in one magazine and 4th out of 6 in the other) is proof positive that GM is as incompetent as ever in workmanship despite billions of $$$$ from Obama.

GM's downfall benefits America.

Chess, not checkers.
