Here in Texas, an individual must be at least 21 years old, receive training on marksmanship and self-defense law, and pass an FBI background investigation in order to qualify for the permit. They're expensive, too.

Oh, that makes things clearer. Thanks for that.

It is still the kind of thing that would make me nervous, however. But the scenario you just painted is less dangerous than what I originally pictured.

Gun free zone for those who follow the law? But what about those break the law? How is this gun free zone going to protect those who follow the law?

I got it, they bring out the side, GUN FREE ZONE and tell the bad boys to go play elsewhere.

I was a high school student once, and I remember comparing rifles/rifle scopes with our vice principal out in the parking lot .. and again, periodically cutting the last class on Fridays just to get some extra hunting time in up in the hills behind town ..

And to add .. there are also many adults who aren't very mature or smart ..

God I love Texas! I wish the rest of the state governments and the federal government were more like Texas.

This is a good law. Students should have the right to protect themselves even when they are on campus. Too many crazed killers know that college campuses are easy kill zones because the students aren't allowed to carry guns. We've seen tragedy play out many times in the past when law-abiding students didn't have the means to protect themwselves from homicidal nutcases. Hopefully this will send a message to those nutcases to avoid Texas campuses and we will see other states pass similar laws.

I'm not trying to stifle opinion, I'm simply commenting about a constant troll who jumps into every thread around for no other reason than to bash Americans.

History shows our law enforcement is ill equipped to do so.
History also shoes beer-blasts are a part of life at many colleges, oughta combine well with guns, eh?
