I am quite serious. Obviously, child porn is a crime. How is it that this information is available on the web? It would seem as though such material could be blocked, the sources identified and shut down, and prevent the lion's share of this trade.
That generally is what happens. But plenty of distribution can be going on in the meantime. And frankly, the Internet is global, and few other countries make it as much of a law enforcement priority as the U.S. does.

You cannot block anything from being shared on the internet unless you are willing to accept a NAS style gathering program to do it, otherwise you're playing the world's largest game of Whack-A-Mole.
For example, you can take a file and encrypt it. Upload to file sharing site, the site owner has no clue what is in that file, nor would law enforcement. They will go into a chat room or whatever and find people to share the key with. This is where they get caught if they didn't hide their tracks.
For more sophisticate crowd there is multiple ways to hide your tracks with some of them being outside of the reach of US law enforcement.
You could have a torrent of images from one "provider" that can quickly get into the hands of thousands of people. Even if you arrest the originator, the material is already out there and stored locally on peoples' systems. You can't destroy that.
Perhaps someone could enlighten me, as it is confusing. Nearly every week, there is an article in our local newspaper concerning the arrest of someone who has in thier possession downloaded child porn from the internet.
I am a little ignorant, but how in the hell is this stuff available "to download" in the first place! I am a little surprised that these sources, where ever they may be, are not shut down and banned in the first place. Is this not illegal to create and dispense? If made outside of the US, how can this still not be blocked?

Mental facilities are for those who cant function in society.. These people who look at child porn usually can function normally on a day to day basis. The things they do can be considered sick by most, but that doesnt mean they cant function.
There are lots of things people do in society that we consider sick.. but we dont lock them up in a mental ward..

These people deserve to die. They are the lowest of the low. If I ever saw anyone harm a child I would beat them to a pulp. I was in the mall last year and some ghetto fat pig and her boyfriend were treating their child like crap. The guy smacked the child full force blow to the back of his head! I immediately ran up to that guy,grabbed him by the neck and choked him violently. Thankfully there were witnesses who saw what happened, so we called the cops who then called child protective services. My wife consoled the child who was only 5 and said that "His mama and boyfriend hit him all the time"! If I was allowed to I would have adopted that boy right there to save him from a life of misery!
