They're fighting for corporate interests.
What were they doing in Iraq to begin with?
Sometimes, I really think you wait for me to voice an opinion,
and then just go the other way.

That's OK, proves I am right. I love my country, state, family,
and my rights. I will fight for all.

For my country?? As in for my fellow working class brothers and sisters, yes. But for Halliburton, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and the politicians of this country, no. No way in hell, nor will I encourage my sons to join the military.

It's more complicated than that.

Would I go grab my guns and fight off an invasion of the United States by an foreign power to my last breath? Absolutely, without a second thought.

Would I go to the Middle East or SE Asia to run around in circles and get shot at so rich, fat rich men can play their power games in attempts to get richer/more powerful? Hell no! I'm nobody's pawn.

God bless America! I'll lay down my life gladly for my family and decent folks everywhere, but never will I lay down and die for a suit. They are the problem to begin with!

I can guarantee you no one is enlisting in the military to save my behind, or anyone else's.

Its got a lot more to do with having a job than defending the USofA against any manufactured boogeyman.

And if you think anyone would enlist if they actually thought they were going to die, well, then, all hope is lost for you.

I can't speak for everyone else, but dying was on my mind when I enlisted.
I never said I was looking forward to it. If it is not on your mind, you are
making a terrible mistake.

No, in general.

But individual circumstance may change my vote to yes.

Don't you just love the lame excuses folks come up with for serving in defense of their country?

"It's not my country any more." Really? Whose is it? You live here, don't you?

"I'm too busy/important/in school/have kids, etc, etc, etc." Guess what? Those better men and women than you had the same things, but they went. What's so special about you?

"I'll defend the people but not the government." Uh huh. Do you understand that principles of the Constitution and the Declaraton of Independence? I didn't think so.

"I'm not fighting for (insert excuse here)." So...you get to pick and chose?

"I'll fight when they come here." Yeah, right. If you won't fight them out there, before they get here, you won't fight here either.

Too many people in this thread remind me of a guy I passed on the interstate just after 9/11. He had a giant American flag flying from the side of his truck and was running his mouth on the CB about patriotism, love of country etc.

So...as I went by him, I glanced over and noticed that he was young and looked healthy looking, so I asked him: "If you're such a great patriot, why aren't you in the service?"

His response just floored me: "Oh, no. We HIRE people to do that!"
