Daylight Savings Time is completely worthless. Alaska kids during the winter are always going to school and coming home from school in the dark.
During the Winter Solstice the sun does not rise until 10:14 AM in Anchorage, and sets at 3:41 PM. During the Summer Solstice the sun rises at 4:20 AM in Anchorage, and sets at 11:42 PM. So what is the point of shifting around the day by one hour? This is nothing more than another one of those liberal "feel good" measures that does absolutely nothing except inconvenience everyone.
maybe in alaska it is completely worthless...but here on the east cosat it is a good thing
without it the sun would set around 8pm (instead of the better 9pm) and would rise at like 4:50 am....daylight saving time is a great thing and should be from 15 Mar to 15 Nov....or extended even further
if you really want to get rid of daylight savings time where you live, just get the populace, or your state government, to make it illegal except in times of declared war. we dont have to deal with daylight savings time here in arizona.
Time is such a weird subject.
If we are going to manipulate time, let's add an 8th day to the week but reduce each day by 3 hours. (21 hour days). Let's keep our 5 day work week, though and let's give workers constant 3 day weekends. Stress levels would decrease dramatically -- I mean, how can it NOT?!
=)
Regardless, DST is just annoying and pretty pointless
It never made any benefit for me. As for reduced sunlight hours, well it doesn't affect me one way or another. After a week, I don't notice a difference. I think it's a useless practice
Keep DST all year, the only disadvantage is some areas where kids going to school in the morning will be in the dark, but more light in the evening is better for most.
I'm with the keep it all year crowd. I prefer the having the sun up later, I hate when we have to switch back to standard time, and it gets dark so early.
Lose it, lose it, lose it! There's no such thing as saving an hour of light in the day or not--it just gets moved to another part of the day. And the time shift is confusing for my body and a pain in the neck to keep track of! Easier to stay on the same time year-round.
Well, keeping Day Light Savings Time saves us money and daylight. I don't want to see it go.
Not really. We just end up switching on the lights in the evening instead of the morning or vice versa, and getting the extra hour of light in the evening instead of the morning or vice versa. The idea we save or lose something is an illusion--it is quite literally just a shift.
