You should volunteer to pay more in taxes for any program you think is worthwhile, but don't send us the bill.

The democrats want to keep things fair and want cuts from both sides. The republicans want to make some cuts mostly only to democrat plans.
The democrats want to bring out the chainsaw to the outrageous military spending, the right said no.
The democrats are willing to give up emergency energy assistance and other low income assistance in exchange for the republicans to slice corporate hand outs which Boehner so far has refused and why we are at a stand still.
I believe it is YOU that has it wrong and I proved it with my first post.

The article says the repubs are reaching out. You say just the opposite. Sorry, you loose

You can deny and try and turn the truth all you want, but, we all know the dems have spent like drunken sailors for 4 years and do NOT want to stop. It is the repubs who are trying to stop the spending spree.

Yeah, they're not turning to mod dems. One member met with some blue dogs at their request.

Boehner is not backing down.

They GOP has the issue. Let the democrats explain why they shut the government down because they couldn't find $60 billion...out of $3+ trillion.

Again false. It is the Progressive left whose intent along with Obama is to crash the US economy that wants to shut down the government instead of making meaningful spending cuts.

Had the Progressive left given a d*mn about jobs or the economic future of this country they would not have been spending so irresponsibly in the 6 years they controlled Congress.

Chuckie Schumer's parrots are out in force.

Same could be said for the other side.

I would like to see them working together, to solve issues, since they are both guilty of spend baby spend, neither party has had no problems with spending issues, just telling each of us to tighten our belts, while they spend.

Exactly!!!

Why should Boehner compromise on fixing the road to the death of the USA?
There are no shortcuts

Sounds to me like the Progressives need to calm down and come to their senses, unless they are not interested in fixing the debt and deficits.

60 billion is a drip, of what needs to be cut.

Except that it's more likely that the GOP will be blamed if the government shuts down, which is why Boehner is in such a tough spot. If he negotiates with the Democrats, the Tea Partiers will make him pay for it in 2012; and if he doesn't, the rest of the country will take it out on the GOP in 2012 just like they did in 1996. Poor John. It was so much easier last year, when all you had to do was say "NO!" to everything.

The Republicans created a monster that was higly effective in accomplishing their goal of instilling fear into the population. But now the monster is off its leash, and they are getting mauled by it.

Boehner is backing down, do you notice what he is doing ? he is siding with the {D}s for less cuts. Instead of the pathetic 61 billion they want to take him down to 30. And he is looking for votes no matter what to get the bill to the Senate.
There can not be a real conservative movement when you have fake established {R}s at the helm such a Boehner and his weasel Cantor. The freshmen{ some tea party} and other conservatives should have never have supported Boehner being speaker.
