Police are being told to brace themselves for a summer of street violence as a record-low one in four U.S. teenagers will land a job.

Experts said cities like Chicago, where summer unemployment among African-Americans aged 16 to 19 years approaches 90 per cent, could experience a rise in street violence.

All on the republican's hands. They promised "Jobs are the #1 priority" coming in at the beginning of the year, they needed their oh-so-precious tax cuts for the rich extended though it continues to crush the economy, and in the end no jobs have been created,.....Well, only in china,..

This is GREAT for law-abiding teens. You will ALWAYS win the job battle when you are competing with a thug with a police record.

Unfortunately, even when you take everyone with a record out of the running, you still have far too many high-energy teens and far too few jobs to keep them occupied.

I suggest everyone get a few large dogs and a good alarm system. The biggest crime almost everyone will eventually be victim of is having your house broken into by bored kids looking for money and stuff to pawn.

Don't worry, I'm sure new Mayor Rahm Emmanuel will solve the problem in Chicago problem as well has the famous Chicago community organizer did.

Ultimately it is the responsibilty of the parents to keep their children busy during the summer. The government has never been and can never be "parent".

Ah yes... Those pesky "African american teens" will be at it again. Gotta love how the media race baits the public into pointing their finger at the blacks again. Nevermind that those kids are from economically depressed areas and instead of pointing that out they pick the easiest thing to claim - watch out for the black kids they're going to be violent because they can't get a job.

The "Mail Online" - Imagine that... the English playing the race card on us.

He said that the long-term impact of higher summer joblessness among young people is a less-experienced work force and increased government spending due to lower lifetime earnings, reduced tax revenues and higher prison costs.

The whole article sounds like we should put the black kids to work building jails for their future.

This kinda crap makes me sick.

Now all thats left to do is raise the minimum wage to ensure they won't enter the working world for another decade.

A quoted statistic in this article on state rankings blew my mind:

"There are 25 states what have teen unemployment rates above 25 percent, which means one out every four teens trying to find a job can't."

GA and SC top teen unemployment - WTOC, Savannah, Georgia, news, weather and sports |

These kids of ALL races are just starting their lives. They need help to steer a course that lets them do honest work for a decent wage.

Where's Al Sharpton when you need a sound bite on the problem?

I suspect some folks In Alabama and Missippi could use some help cleaning up from the storms. If one cannot get paid, volunteerism can keep them out of trouble. However, those teens that will have a tendancy to get into trouble usually don't have parents to guide them towards such productivity.
