Let's assume the Repubs got their wish: taxes on the wealthy were cut to the bone. At the same time so were all the entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Aid for Dependent Children, etc.

What would this country look like? Would it collapse like the Roman Empire or would it just continue to hobble along for a century or two with a few elites and a huge mass of garbage dumpster divers? Would we just adapt to our new lower status, as it seems Americans have no will to resist and rebel against their corporate masters?

I ask because it appears this is the direction we're headed.

After some initial pain we would be better off in the long run. We need to hit the reset button. We can't afford this gigantic welfare state any longer.

My first question what are "taxes on the wealthy were cut to the bone"... is that 25%? 28%? 33%? 35%? 15%? 10%?..... the direction we're headed? So now you claim to know what it will be like with cuts to entitlements... wow... that type of behavior is what's wrong with America... I know best because I said so without needing to provide any proof whatsoever...

I would hazard to opine that the wealthy wouldn't mind their taxes being cut to 5%--the same rate the very poorest among us pay. So let's go with "the bone" being 5%.

None of the items you listed, are entitlements.. they are charitable contributions the taxpayers make to the government to help those less fortunate.. They are NOT entitlements..

It would lead into their idea of a perfect america, a fascist reign. The rich would be living like kings, where the rest of the country would be extremely poor. It would be an "honor" just to have a job making 2$ an hour, brutal working conditions, no benefits, 80+ hour work weeks, raped poverty, high crime, corrupt law enforcement, next to no environmental standards, rigged elections,..It would look like other modern far right countries (I.E. the middle east) where a small group of elitists have everything and the rest of the country brutally struggles.

odd because when they cut welfare spending and other "entitlements" during the Clinton years, it lead to economic prosperity and 20M+ individuals finding work.. Now you want us to expect the exact opposite..

Sadly the only way to get rid of the republican poor south and the tea party is to have this happen. Let the republicans give it all to the rich and enslave everyone else. It would serve all the poor who want get involved and any poor or tea party type that votes for republicans right.

This is exactly what they want.

Geeez, another evil, republican straw dog created, just so it could be set on fire, in an attempt to make liberal policies look reasonable.

We do not need to create a straw dog to illustrate the failure of liberalism. If we just keep on the same 0bama path we are on, and do nothing to address Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security, and keep increasing the national debt, we will drown in debt. The wealthy in this country do not have enough money to fund a never ending parade of 0bama cronyism and an ever expanding social welfare system.
