Political correctness is an approved form of censorship. Based on emotional appeals at the expense of reason, political correctness mandates that inconvenient truths or facts be swept under the carpet. Or else.
Free speech, guaranteed to all Americans under the first amendment, is on it’s way to becoming moot. The political, media and intellectual elites who control the terms of national debate and the rules of civil society have succeeded in censoring opposing views, limiting debate and demonizing dissent. Perception is on its way to becoming our new reality.

Note, this is a Right leaning article. Just to clear that up before someone says it's slanted. The author has valid points though, if you keep an open mind.
I know several ladies in their late 70's/early 80's that really ignore PC'ness ON PURPOSE. They know what they're saying is racist/xenophobic, etc., but they know they get a free pass because of their age, and do they take advantage of it!
My grandmother used to be that way before she passed away. She was 93. It's funny how older people know they can get away with more because they're old.
I would correct her sometimes and she would just say, "Well, I'm old". Too funny!
You can. People will just judge you for it. Just like with anything you say. People want to use free speech without being held responsible for what they say and that doesn't work either.

Funny cause most older folks sure don't let me get away with calling them "dude" every five seconds just cause I'm younger.
If we're going to adjust for generational language, we may as well do it both ways.
You're right, they don't let you get away with it. We only let little kids and elderly get away with that stuff. By the way, my teens tried using "dude" around the house and I put a stop to it. No free speech in my house!

There's only one Dad/man in my house.
I make the rules. The rules never change. You follow the rules, you don't get rewarded. You break the rules, you get punished.
Rewarding normal behavior is why we have an entitlement generation.
So people should be free to say racist, sexist and discriminatory things, but other people are not allowed to criticize them for it. People protesting what others say is just another example of free speech.
I think it should be completely free. And the people you use it on should be free to respond in any way they deem necessary.
If that means kicking your butt, then so be it.
