He would have had to be included on the passport, which would have required a birth certificate.

Yep.

All in all though, once Obama had his passport (and we know he has had once since he was a child), there would never be another instance where a birth certificate would be needed... the passport itself would suffice.

And again, I'm not saying he never had one. Just that he never needed one.

side note: before anyone launches into the "indonesian passport" rant i'd suggest googling "indonesian citizenship requirements" and "minor renouncing US citizenship".
It was more difficult than I thought it would be to find the answer to your question. Here is the best I could do:

Passport for Child: How to Get a Passport for a Child

Formerly, children could, in certain circumstances, travel under their parent's passport but new laws to help prevent international child abduction require a child passport for every minor.

"Formerly" and "under certain circumstances" are not defined. Yes, if Obama traveled back to the US alone at age 10, he would have needed his own passport.

Yes, quoting Paul E Vallely, retired US Army Major General, and currently Military Committee Chairman for the Center for Security Policy. What credentials do you have?

Some of us don't like contributing to World Nutz Daily's web ratings by clicking on their
links, hence the warning....

All of which, I am sure, makes him an expert on forgery.
