I agree, but only to some extent. Because the poor would want too, but lack of resources will be an uphill battle and consequently, it simply is easier to get done if there is wealth to back it up. The system, from the beginning, was also designed to promote the causes of the rich and protect them from the whims of the majority. The senate was to serve that purpose.

Many have money prior to becoming politicians: that is number one, from there they write books, they have wives/husbands that continue to work or who have exc jobs. they are usually educated. There are a lot of ways. Why do you ask?

There's also the time honored way of marrying into money to finance a political career. E.g. Dianne Feinstein, John Kerry, John McCain, Nancy Pelosi, etc.

They did not spend their own money from the time they decide to run and get campaign contributions. After that they get favorable land/house deals, mortgage rates and business propositions from people trying to influence them. Any money that they spend doubles or triples in the government ponsi scheme with the taxpayers as the losers.

That's why it's so hilarious. A bunch of rich white ****s (mainly the Democrats but other politicians too) talking about how evil the businesses and rich people in this country are. Stupid Americans eat that **** up, yet don't realize or are too stupid to notice that these politicians they vote into office are rich themselves.

2) Being a Congressman or Senator basically gives you a free ride in a lot of regards from both government and private interests. You get free flights, free healthcare, a number of different allowances for meals and lodging, and a lot of private businesses will go out of their way just so they can say they have Senator or a Congressman as a customer. You don't have to spend a lot of money if you are willing to not live a life of absolute luxury, just an extremely cushy and somewhat luxurious one.

3) Being a Senator or Congressman gives you a lot of job opportunities. You get public speaking engagements, a number of companies already want to hire you based on your connections (even if you suck, you still have far more connections than the overwhelming majority of MBAs from an Ivy League college), and so on.

4) Baldfaced corruption.
While I agree with some of what you write, I have to correct one error. They do NOT get free health care.

They have the option to enroll in the same insurance plan ALL federal employees are offered and pay the same portion.
