If you don't speak a standard dialect, you can't get employed in a lot of places. That's true.

Ebonics is just nonstandard, not substandard. It is just as rich and varied of a dialect as any other dialect of any other language of the world. Linguistic studies have been done to show its complexity runs as deep and as wide as any other dialect found within any language across the world.

That's because it's not a foreign language. It's a dialect of English. Just like American English and British English and Indian English are not separate languages but dialects of English. Dialects can be broken up even further into regions and social circles within each country as well.

A criticism is not a degradation.

Degradation is selling crack to your own people.

Degradation is is murdering one of your own kind for wearing the wrong color or walking down the wrong street.

Degradation is is impregnating a "sister of color" then abandoning her to raise the child by herself.

Pointing it out is not the degradation, my friend.
Yes because only "white" people know what "degradation" is!

"White" people don't do crack they prefer booze and Heroin!

"White" people also don't "murder" each other right?

"White" people also don't get "pregnant"! Yet the most popular MTV show is "16 & Pregnant" and "Teen Mom"!

Yes, it finally bit the dust. It was an attempt to raise scores of Blacks in the schools to passing levels.

Lower the bar, change the rules..as long as they pass and you can get that ticky mark by the state.

If you're going to speak Ebonics, at least get the grammar right.

Contrary to popular belief, Ebonics is not just an accidental medley of words and phrases put together randomly. There are consistent grammatical rules to Ebonics that change the meaning of a sentence accordingly. They are just different from those of standard American English.

"You tired", "You be tired", and "You done been tired" all have distinct meanings. They're not just three ways of saying you're tired.

Not to mention, other languages like standard Russian use copulation deletion and consider it to be proper grammar. For example, Russian for "you're tired" is: ты уставший ty ustavshy -- literally "you tired". However in Russian it is not mocked as being ungrammatical or "not speaking" or "unintelligent" because it's an accepted standard form in Russian.

Funny how it's "lowering the bar" in America when blacks do it but when Russians do it no one has any problem.

What's the purpose of this?

It's also old news.... article is from 2005?
