losing a limb isn't frivolous. i'm thinking the mcdonalds hot coffee burned me case, etc
The McDonald's hot coffee cases is another example. The company was on notice that the coffee they were producing was so hot as to create an unreasonable danger of serious injury and they refused to do anything about it. They deserved to be slammed.
What I don't understand is how on one hand, Texans are supposedly so against government intervention yet on the other hand, they are all for laws that hamper the ability of our elected officials to decide what should and should not go to trial. Talk about the ultimate government intervention.

Hm, I know coffee is hot. I know that because it's hot, I shouldn't put in between my legs. Then drive.
Libs won't be happy until we are all wrapped in bubble wrap. Mandated by the govt. And regulated by a presidential appointed committee.
I suggest you read both sides and all perspectives before you say this is a wonderful idea. It is, as long as you can afford to lose body parts and time off of work due to someone else's gross negligence.
You obviously have a comprehension issue.
What part of " lawsuit is groundless " is difficult to understand. The Loss of body parts due to gross negligence is actionable, and is a far cry from GROUNDLESS.
Alright, I'm the biggest right wing libertarian out here and I am REALLY, REALLY against this law. Lawsuits are a huge check and balance in capitalism and are instrumental in keeping abuses to the system from occurring. Best yet, they're entirely within the framework of a free, laissez-faire economy. Government intervention that tells workers and others when they can or cannot sue is just as bad as government regulations that tell businesses who they can or cannot hire and what they can or cannot produce. Let businesses do what they feel they need to and if someone feels it is not fair, sue. Keep the government as much out of it as possible.
I'd actually be for privatizing the court system but that's a whole other issue.

Stupid should hurt.
This is not a right or left issue. Coffee should be hot but NOT BOILING HOT!
if you spill coffee on yourself you should expect to get burned. You should NOT expect to get 3rd degree burns and spend a month in the hosiptal!
There is a reason why McDonald's paid in this instance and there is a reason why now their coffee is substantially COOLER than it was before.

Yep, we need to protect the stupid from themselves....
This should be expanded to include ALL states. Frivolous lawsuits tick me off; they are right up there with welfare scams and medicare fraud.
