Is $7.25/hour a 'living wage'?

An exodus of labor to where? Where would these people go if this was an industry practice?

As to a 'floor' being necessary I assure you that, if it became legal to do so and the minimum wage were abolished tomorrow, a lot more low skilled workers (willing to work and not sponge of others) would be hired instead of being on the dole.

60% of min. wage workers are in food and beverage....this includes tipped employees by the way.

I'm not too sure but I certainly don't think one should be trying to "make a living" on minimum wage.

So 50% of minimum wage workers are OVER 25?

How are they doing?

Of course I know about making minimum wage; why would you think otherwise?

There in lies the problem. There is no 'unskilled labor' really. I ran a Cemetery for 10 years, technically digging a grave would be classified as 'unskilled labor' but I'll tell you, nothing could be farther from the truth. Same with weeding, mowing, and maintaining the park or ANY action.

The problem is people have been told that their job is 'unskilled' and because of that they don't see the value in doing it better; Which is bullocks. If your job is do X, you best be the best X you can - but people just don't do that anymore and for the most part it's corporate culture that has pushed this POV onto their sub-servants.

One of the best scenes for the short lived show "Grounded for Life"

Grandpa - "I'm going to go out back and teach the boys how to dig a hole!"

Mom - "What? What is there to know about digging a hole?"

Grandpa -"That's the attitude that leads to sub standard holes!"

I wouldn't know. I have never had to survive on $7.25 per hour.

What with utilities, food, living expenses, transportation costs, shelter, I can't imagine it's too rosy in a home that is.

Not faulty at all. It's the truth.

Federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, California State minimum wage is $8.00 per hour.

There are many who would pay $3.00 per hour or less if they could get away with it.

Why would employers pay less than minimum wage, you need to ask yourself that.
Some skills are not worthy of $7.25 an hour.

It all but kills that position.
