I agree that mudslinging would seem to be more of a desperate last resort when one has nothing else as you put it. However, it seems that both parties resort to the slinging well before facts are established / debated and certainly before all other avenues are explored. It's like one little tidbit is released and the forces that be run with it.

We can try to believe one side is fairer and more balanced than the other but I am not buying that for one minute.
