Among other things, yes, you have a point.

I absolutely agree. Georgia was the first and only colony to outlaw slavery when it was created by Oglethorpe. The Georgia trustees saw it as evil and thought no good would come of it.

Problem was Georgia was the last colony created and all of the other southern colonies adopted slavery (especially South Carolina) Well after a dozen or so years the Georgia trustee colony fell apart because of slavery. Georgia planters had to charge more, a lot more, than their neighbors in South Carolina to make up for the labor costs. No one wanted Georgia's higher priced goods. The malcontents in Georgia got the crown to get rid of the trustees and they created the traditional royal colony that allowed slavery. The GA colony was able to prosper. It explains why Charleston is a much bigger city than Savannah is even today and why Savannah was a haven for pirates and smugglers, honest merchants bought goods and sailed into Charleston where prices were cheaper.

Had there not been that 50-70 year tradition of slavery in the south before the constitution, we probably would not have had the Civil War.

I don't see the problem. All men ARE created equal. Some become stronger than others and make the weaker ones slaves.

Under your criteria everyone should be the CEO of GE because we are "equal".

That wasn't quite the view Thomas Paine held, in fact the opposite. And he had quite an influence on his good friends.

I'd say allowing slavery, and pretty much taking the land from the Native Americans.

How do you start a country without taking it from another?

As a side note. The Native Americans did not really believe in "owning" land they had the concept "you own it while you live on it" after that it was considered free game.

Hmmm, so according to you I can make anyone weaker than myself a slave. Thanks for pointing yourself out to me.

Saying all men are created equal but counting slaves as 3/5th's of a person is a huge contradiction

I wish they would have watched how they phrased their ideas such as "general welfare", we could argue all day what was their interpretation and intent.

Another is how hard it is to amend the constitution I would have preferred a majority in the House,60 votes in the Senate, and a majority from the state legislatures.
