I think the common misconception is that if we don't raise the cealing, then we default on loans. That is not true. The loans get paid first. The real debate is what to do with the remainder. The two big boys - the defense budget & SS/Medicare/aid can't both be paid out. Which goes?

well seeing that SS is largely funded by the FICA tax withholding and NOT the general fund, SS should continue to be paid.
