A consumption tax is highly regressive. It means that somebody making $1m per year will pay the same rate of tax on an item as somebody making $20k - the lower income earner pays a far greater proportion of their income in taxes.

47% of Americans do NOT pay Federal Income tax and in some cases get back more than they paid into the system.
This has been hilarious reading through this thread. There were times I had to stop and gather my composure I was laughing so hard. So many posters with their heads in the sand here it's truly amazing. Barry, the boy president, just doesn't get it.
