Really that is all that is required to raise the debt ceiling. It does not have to be a massive bill. In fact, it is just one paragraph that has the number in it that is passed by both houses and signed by the president. It would literally take 5 minutes to write and then no more than 1 hr to vote in either house.

So why these elaborate talks and debates about budgets and deficits and agreements. It is because the Republicans are trying to hold the economy hostage in exchange for agreeing to raise the debt ceiling. They have created this mess, and is they who will be responsible when and if it unravels.

The good news is that they can simply agree with one hour left to pass the debt ceiling as they have done 51 times before without a budget plan and deal without that later. Crisis avoided.

Are you serious?

All the liberals act like it is mandatory to raise the debt ceiling...IT ISNT! Stop all this wasteful spending on useless things...How about you guys stop trying to bailout everyone...Learn the meaning of individualism. Stop trying to take care of every and anyone.

Ron Paul for President.

Before we had a Black President......

debt ceilings were raised over a game of golf;
over cigars and scotch;
over ***** bars then church on Sunday;

One paragraph. This is true.

But that was before we had a Black President.

No, crisis kicked down the road. Giving Obama a blank check to continue his spending spree is probably as catastrophic as a default on our debt, if not more so.

Well giving Obama a blank check, is not only Catastrophic, but for himself very catastrophic and self destructing. This would not be THE PERFECT STORM?
