Gov. Susana Martinez orders 10,000 to verify New Mexico residency (illegal, deportation, how much)

All are in a pool that the state Motor Vehicle Division refers to as its database of "foreign national" drivers. It contains the names of about 85,000 people. Martinez wants her administration to check 10,000 of them to gauge how much fraud has occurred in New Mexico's system of licensing drivers who are in the country illegally. Those who do not comply with instructions to travel to Albuquerque for residency verification face cancellation of their driver's licenses.

As I understand it, these people only get a license because they are pending appeals for deprotation, verifying their addresses so that they will appear for court seems prudent.

Umm.. they were given licenses because they wanted them, immigration/deportation cases notwithstanding. It's pretty easy to get a DL in a lot of places these days. Goes towards helping immigrants fraudulently establish residency here.

Absolutely. Any program that checks whether a person is here legally is good.

They should have done this when they were issued a licence. Change your laws and you would not have to do this.

As I understand it, you have to prove citizenship except those pending appeals. The Federal Program requires they be allowed Drivers licenses and Work Permits until their cases are resolved. We have a lot in Arizona too. I assume that by making your statement you can prove otherwise
