There was no brutality in this instance from what I see,an armed career criminal was shot and killed.

That's it, it was triggered by a protest in a neighbourhood with a high black population and a history of claims of police racism after the shooting of a black drug dealer, but since the first night it's just been the criminal underclass running amok, of whom perhaps a disproportionate % happen to be black. It's not considered to be race-based and few think in terms of 'them and us'- indeed, a lot of the people who've come out of it looking best have not been native British:

Thank you. Those riots were basically people who were angry, didn't care, and then other people followed along. Anger and nihilism followed by mob mentality.

If we're talking about police shootings then according to the official statistics there had only been seven in the past three years in this country, all of them on white people.

Great post. This shooting has been described as "racial" in nearly all the articles, but none mention the facts you posted.

It's Britain, not the US. In Britain and Europe in general such cases are much less frequent and thus much more spectacular than in the US. Up until recently bobbies were not even armed except for a stick, I think I read somewhere that that has or was about to change.. There was (and maybe still is, dunno) a huge, almost philosophical debate on whether or not they should carry firearms

Anger that they saw others walking around with iPads and all they could afford at that moment was a netbook.

I guess it is more complicated. Many non-whites in certain areas are in the UK illegally. People can be stopped and searched at random, and people of color feel that they are targeted because of their looks, which indeed statistics confirm. If you are not white, you are much more likely to be stopped and searched in Britain.
Illegals can't officially complain about the police. And even many legal immigrants hesitate to report police brutality.
Especially the London police force is considered racist by many immigrants.
