To suggest that it has no significance is absurd. Are libs really as happy with a -15 as they would be with a +15 at this point in the cycle? Of course not!

Hard to see a scenario in which Odummy pulls out a win.

Reagan was at 44% at this point in his presidency, but all the economic indicators were pointing in a positive direction.

The Misery Index which reached 22% in June of 1980 had declined to 12%, GDP was 8.1% and inflation adjusted price of a gallon of gas was $2.60/gal, down from $4.10 under Carter.

Today, as Obummer trends downward, the Misery Index is at 12.76% and trending upward as it has done since he took office, GDP is 1.3% and gasoline is $3.70/gal. What's worse than having failed is that he refuses to admit his failure. America would give him a second chance if he would simply acknowledge that he at least gets it, but he doesn't. Clinton admitted his failures and it earned him a second term.

Im glad to see his numbers go down, but we have to be careful. There is still over a year to go. ANYTHING can happen.

Nothing would make me happier than to see Obama give a concession speech. If he ends up losing, I wonder if he and his wife will manage to be as gracious as Bush has been.....I wonder if Michelle O will suddenly not be proud to be American again. I could easily see her getting angry and vocal if should happen to lose.

39%=

12% from Blacks
20% from non-blacks who just genuinely have the views Obama has and really think he's doing a great job.
7% from who knows?

39% is bad, but we are still a long way out from election time. Let's see how this number looks in the next few weeks when gas prices are expected to drop 50 cents.

Obama is suffering in recent comparisons to Carter. Carter at least learned from his mistakes and tried to make some course corrections. Obama is completely oblivious to his failures...

You can take off 2-5 points from this for LV/RV.

Gallup.Com - Daily News, Polls, Public Opinion on Government, Politics, Economics, Management

39% Approve - 54% Disapprove.

I'm thinking his message of blame and unwillingness to admit his own failures is the reason.

I guess it probably didn't help that once again, obamacare, HIS signature legislative, got smacked down in the courts.
His post downgrade speech was probably the worst I've seen him. For the sake of the country I hope he recovers. I disagree with his politics but I want him to do well.

The comparisons to Carter are ridiculous. Obama is heading into 2012 with a massive political machine and is raising boat loads of money. Republicans getting cocky right now and going to run into a brick wall next year.

I'm sure she'll find someone else other than the taxpayers to foot the bill for her Kobe beef and lobster...

I wouldn't say meaningless in the context of the economic pain from which these numbers are emerging. The approval rating is just the score. The economic misery people are living in is the game. I see nothing going on here except a losing effort based on a flawed game plan. You can claim the other team cheated and the refs made some bad calls, but none of that matters once people enter the voting booth and remember how difficult life has been under Obama.
