Perhaps these states should worry less about same-sex marriage and more about opposite-sex marriage. I suggest a constitutional amendment in these states to ban divorce.

Baptists, in this part of the south are vastly different than Catholic and other churches....also as another post above mentioned the COL is lower but they tend to have many children at a younger age, ("abstinence" is still taught in the poorest counties of Appalachia)

Quite true. FDR is a revered figure there. Much of the political persuasion there was formed from Democrat policy. New Deal, the TVA, etc are still very fresh in the minds of that population. It is interesting how many modern liberals equate rural folks automatically with rabid right wing thought. It just ain't so.
