You just don't do that kind of thing in a dense suburban neighborhood. It's anti-social. Utah has plenty of open space if butchering is your thing. Not in your driveway here:

That was my thinking too....you would also need either a hoist or a tree with a come along to lift the carcass.

It is certainly NOT going to be the first animal I try slaughtering,I was thinking of starting with chickens....

I would have walked over and helped the guy. There's nothing wrong with slaughtering a cow. Typical ostrich syndrome. People love steak and burgers, but god forbid they see how we actually get the meat.

LOL....I guess making others FEEL bad about where their burger comes from is anti-social....

Why would you slaughter a cow out in the open spaces?
Where would you hang it?
How would you chill it?

I take it that you've not heard of such thing as hunting much less be involved in cleaning up the mess?

If anyone can slaughter an animal just like that, who makes sure it is done in the right way? After all there are many regulations to observe

Yes.

So why would you process a 1000lb cow out in the wilds instead of next to a source of running water, coolers and concrete again?

What regulations?
For what purpose?

It is your cow,for your consumption, how you do it is your business.

I wouldn't attempt it for my first home slaughter,a sheep or goat would be easier to handle.

You wouldn't, if you fancy being a butcher. My point was to address your ideas that certainly don't apply to hunting/cleaning, do they? How do THEY do it in open?

Around where we lived, they gutted it out in the woods then brought it in and did the rest.
This was deer, obviously MUCH smaller than a cow.
There also is the mater of the temperature, where we lived it wasn't cool enough to do it out in the field.

So,you would not butcher a cow out in the field if given the choice,(which this man was)you woudl choose a more conducive environment with better facilities.
