Why is putting a private company in charge of something like medicare not a viable alternative? If a private company becomes inefficient, another company is started and takes over the business. If the government becomes inefficient...well...we simply raise taxes and support it anyway. Social Security is a prime example of that. If you had invested the same amount of money that you would pay into SS in the stock market for the last 25 years and retired today, you would have over eight times as much money for retirement. It is common knowledge that social security is much, much more inefficient than private investing, however it is supported anyway.

The federal government's job is NOT to provide food or healthcare for american citizens (food stamps/obamacare as two examples). Where did you ever get the idea that it was?

are the standards unclear........the right screams about govt control while it actually increases gov't
Fact is they don't hate govt programs that benefit them. It's a smokescreen, - sounds "responsible" and macho to blame govt but take its money anyway. The idea being that many Americans are too dumb or preoccupied to notice. It's rhetoric for public consumption. Ever talk to a con artist or used car salesman?
It's just being pragmatic - getting "yours" in any way possible.
It's a lot like blaming Obama for the deficit after Republicans ran it up, or refusing to raise the debt ceiling after raising it themselves year after year, no questions asked.
