I don't know about the overall demographics, but there was a thread about a month back along similar lines asking what work people did. There were a lot of tech and engineering people, to my recollection. You'd have to match the results up with the names to get any data out of it, though.
Fields such as technology, arts, entertainment, education, as well as other creative and advancement positions are held by those who are generally more liberal, while fields that deal with greed, power, and cronyism such as the banking industry, arms manufactures, big oil and wall street appeal more towards conservatives.
In the Seattle area they're definitely mostly liberal...but then the entire area has a very strong liberal tilt so that's not really unexpected. Idaho or Texas tech/software companies might be different.
I'm in the software engineering/mathematics field and most of the people I work with are pretty darn conservative. I've found that certain companies tend to attract more liberal types but since I also deal with pretty heavy mathematical engineering solutions, M&S, risk analysis, etc, I tend to see a lot more conservatives in my area. Don't think the field can be pigeon-holed into a politcial demographic as there are so many different disciplines in the s/w development anyway that require different personality types and analytical skills.

I guess it's safe to say that those who are employed as urban crack dealers, car jackers and gangstahs lean to the more liberal side of the spectrum.
