The financial strain is considerable. Some middle-class salaries in India are below the poverty line in the West. The difference in tuition between top American and Indian universities is staggering. Tuition at Dartmouth is $41,736 a year, not including room and board, while most of the colleges of Delhi University cost about $150 to $500 per year"

So how are these students from India able to afford it and how do they plan to pay back a loan specially if they go back to India?

The housing market has seen the effects of the Indian "culture".

They are short-selling their homes and returning to India. The banks are eating the deficiency judgements for the difference between what is owned on the mortage and what the house actually sells for.

Also, IT consulting companies bring these people over hear and pay them less than a third of their billing rate that is charged to the employer.

First of all International students are not eligible for loan by law in USA. Student loans are given only to permanent residents, not visa holders. Also Student visa is given to students from india only when they submit Bank statement showing money covering their tuition/living expenses to US embassy. Foreign students is a big money churning business for US universities.

20-30 years ago students from India coming to USA were brilliant and they came onn scholarships. Most of them stayed here, got green cards, jobs etc. Now best student stay there, only mediocre students come to USA for Masters/MBA/Ph.D. and frankly speaking most of them are either returning back to India or they really regret their decision to come here and wasting money.

Obviously, they're taking scholarships and grants U.S. students won't take. Or didn't earn under the U.S. eduction collective. 'Buy now... Strike later. The American way.'

I've worked with lots of Indian people, frequently engineers who will take technical jobs american engineers would sneer at.
