Don't know if it's accurate but interesting perspective.

Many tout the U.S. as the Roman empire of the modern world. But as it turns out, that comparison may not be all good.
Income inequality in America is at levels even higher than those in ancient Rome, according to a recent study from two historians, Walter Schiedel and Steven Friesen, cited by Per Square Mile. After analyzing papyri ledgers, biblical passages and other previous scholarly estimates, the researchers found that the top one percent of earners in Ancient Rome controlled 16 percent of the society's wealth. By comparison, the top one percent of American earners control 40 percent of the country's wealth, according to Vanity Fair. (h/t ThinkProgress)

40%? Is that all?

Actually, it's probably very accurate. Over the last twenty years, executive salaries have gone up some 500%. In contrast, the middle-class has only enjoyed a 400% increase over the last 50 years. Then, when you start looking at expenses, gasoline has gone up 2000% in the last 50 years (I was paying 17 cents a gallon in 1966), auto insurance premiums went up 1970% in the last 40 years. Food prices aren't much different.

And, instead of a "trickle down economy", you'll find that everything "filters up to the top", to that one percent on top.

Doubt that. In practice the small elite in North Korea owns rubble and bit.

Well perhaps if the lazy 47% of people who don't pay taxes would get off their asses and do something maybe there wouldn't be such an income disparity. I swear, I think the snob nosed libs on this forum have nothing better to do all night and day except get on here to ***** and moan like a bunch of panzies.

I think you numb nuts must not have a job and spend all day in your parents' basement.

Sheesh people, get out there and WORK, instead of posting your drivel on here all day long and you just might amount to something.

WHINERS!

WRONG AGAIN. It's the SMALL BUSINESSES that provide the vast majority of jobs, and while the 1% may have some of the small businesses under contract, they do not own or control them. But most small businesses have little or nothing to do with the 1%. Any idea how many people the little "Mom & Pop restaurants employ across this country? And, that's only one small branch of small business. Beauty salons and barber shops are not owned by the 1%. Garages where you get your car fixed (unless at a dealership) are not owned by the 1%.

Them that has most - gets the rest. This crap started in the 60's and has not ended. When their house of dreams collapses we may have a chance at a little prosperity.

And what would you have them do when no one is hiring? You can invent your own job, but if people do not have the money to pay you for your services, you're still out of work.

Wonderful attitude

I can't believe that you wouldn't be angry that you don't get paid more than 8 $ an hour at your Walmart gig.

How can you support your corporate masters who treat you like a slave?
