Do you think it should be legal for people to go naked in public? Why or why not?

Right now, the culture war is focused on homosexuality, just as it was racial issues in the 60s, heterosexual freedom in the 70s, and abortion in the 80s and 90s. I think in the future, this is going to be where the culture war will go. There is a HUGE closet nudist/naturist movement in the younger generation. Other countries are already much more relaxed on public nudity though I can't think of a civilized nation today that allows it anytime everywhere. Thoughts?

There are a lot of grotesquely obese Americans. There is a very limited quantity of porn stars, super models and people we actually wouldn't mind seeing naked.

I voted no. I'd vote yes if it were limited to women that happen to be hot and have hot bodies.

There is nothing inherently wrong with nudity, but I'm aware this debate is too thought-provoking for most Americans. So instead, I'll say no, because our ultra puritan roots won't allow it, and we might have to do something useful, like have a meaningful conversation with our kids.

No.. I don't care if people -- ugly or otherwise -- run around naked in public. However, I don't want my nine-year-old daughter exposed to it. So no.

Here and there, but not everywhere.

I've seen boobs, I've seen penises, I've seen vaginas - and lived to tell about it. I've been to plenty of public parks where women were topless and both genders felt free to be naked. Still, I managed to survive.

The problem in the US is that some idiot would insist on abusing the right/privilege/whatever and go shopping naked on Broadway in NYC.

Crackdown! New law could force carefree nudists of San Francisco to sit on their towels... and cover up in restaurants

Nudists in San Francisco might soon lose some of their freedom to bare it all.

Walking around naked is still legal. But new legislation introduced on Tuesday would require nudists to put something under their bottoms if they sit down in a public place.

Under city supervisor Scott Wiener's proposal, nudists would also be required to cover up when they are in a restaurant.

San Francisco has always been 20 years or so ahead of the rest of America as far as cultural/social issues. America isn't ready for public nudity in 2011, but will it be in 2030?

It surprises me the number of No votes in this thread. It somebody wants to go shopping naked on Broadway and it feels good to them and its not hurting anybody, what is the problem with it?

I'm not so sure this will ever be the case since public nudity, where it is accepted, is essentially unrelated to irresponsible behavior.

Some past culture wars have address important issues like children's rights, racism and gender equality, but more often that not they have been fought between those who intuitively understand and accept that responsibilities go hand-in-hand with our freedoms and the irresponsible individuals who seek to shirk those responsibilities.

As battleground in a potential culture war, normalized and accepted public nudity a non-starter.

One person's culturally ahead is another persons .. deranged, perverted and amoral behavior WHICH .. San Fran has truly been ahead of the curve for at least the last 20 or so years!

Let's take your reasoning (If I may call it that) to an extreme ..
I like to masturbate in public .. naked!

I'm not hurting anyone AND .. it feels good!

I have met your two laws of acceptance .. Should I move to San Fran?

Oh .. BTW .. Your naked and wrinkled butt .. does hurt my eyes!
