"American soldier suicides continue to outnumber combat-related deaths in 2012, and the trajectory for soldier suicides continues to get worse.
Statistics released by the Department of the Army show that through November potentially 303 active-duty, Reserve and National Guard soldiers committed suicide. As of Dec. 7, Stars and Stripes reports that 212 soldiers have died in combat-related deaths in Afghanistan."
...."About 53 percent of those who died by suicide in the military in 2011, the most recent year for which data is available, had no history of deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan, according to the Defense Department. And nearly 85 percent of military members who took their lives had no direct combat history, meaning they may have been deployed but not seen action."
The obama administration and the DoD are doing a terrible job of meeting the needs of active duty/reserve/retired soldiers. FACT. They cut benefits, deny needed mental health services, there is still a major stigma attached to seeking mental health services in active duty, soldiers are forced to deploy in combat areas multiple times, commands unofficially stop advancements if a soldier has received mental health care....and many other reasons suicide has become an acceptable option. Bottom line.....the obama administration and the DoD pretty much have done nothing to address these problems and, in fact, have gotten much worse under his administration.
I have no idea what is going on. WWII was a much worse war as far as killing and maiming went and we didn't hear about that many WWII vets doing this.
Wrong. The combat vets are dealing with far worse circumstances, as far as actual combat is concerned. The living arrangements overseas in the FOBs are better, but the combat circumstances themselves are worse than WWII.
Also, vets are being prescribed dangerous and addictive prescription pills to deal with depression and PTSD. These nasty pills are known to increase suicidal tendencies when first taken.
Marijuana is known to cure PTSD, but I suppose the collusion between Government and Pharmaceuticals is too strong, like many other industries. SMDH.
Your comment is completely ridiculous.....marijuana does NOT "cure" PTSD. In fact, nothing cures PTSD.....it can be treated with psychotherapy and appropriate medications and if aggressively treated, PTSD symptoms can be ameliorated to the extent to where symptoms are controlled and maybe some can be eliminated. Sounds to me like you are nothing more than a troll who is a pot head, pushing your weed-smoking and brownie-eating drug agenda. Please stay in Oregon where you belong.....
Good god.....leave it to a liberal to accuse people of wanting to kill soldiers in order to make money. What the hell is wrong with you people????
"The United States, currently spends more on military than the next 45 highest spending countries in the world combined. The U.S. accounts for 48% of the world’s total military spending."
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hope of its children." - Dwight D. Eisenhower

It's no coincidence that the first "private war" in our nation's history also happens to be a war with no intended end.
It is a fact that corporations profit heavily from war. Politicians even invest in companies that they know will continue to profit.
Halliburton anyone?
I'm sorry but you are either extremely nieve or intentionally dishonest.

I get my information from medical researchers not from anonymous posters on internet forums. Take it up with them.
It is true I'm an avid marijuana user but... Stay in Oregon? What the hell? LOL
