“The extremism that stifles the development of homegrown energy, or cancels a perfectly safe pipeline that would employ tens of thousands, or jacks up consumer utility bills for no improvement in either human health or world temperature, is a pro-poverty policy.
“It’s not fair and it’s not true for the President to attack Republicans in Congress as obstacles on these questions. They and they alone have passed bills to reduce borrowing, reform entitlements, and encourage new job creation, only to be shot down nearly time and again by the President and his Democrat Senate allies.”
We need more Mitch! Not too late to throw your hat in the ring.
It was a terrible speech. It consisted of setting up a straw man and knocking it down.
I think you have that backwards. The straw man is telling the American people if we just tax them a wee bit more, that will solve all our problems, when of course taxing the "rich" even more wouldn't even put a DENT in the debt/deficit.

lol @ Mitch Daniels complaining about debt. This guy has no shame.
He was director of Office of Management and Budget under Bush and an early architect of our current debt crisis. The hypocrisy of fiscal conservative Republicans rears it heads it again.
Please. Anyone who follows politics understand that Gov. Daniels isn't an honest person.
Well, the citizens of the state of Indiana disagree with you. In fact, he just might be the VP candidate, which would be fantastic.
He has an enviable record in IN....and he's also a union buster.
I'd say HIS speech reflects the values and priorities of Americans much more than the one he was responding to.
