CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested four men for arson after they allegedly burned two American flags near an Occupy camp in uptown on Friday.

Police said Jason Bargert, 28, Michael Behrle, 23, Stephen Morris, 20, and Alex Tyler, 19, were charged with arson and setting fire to woods.

The four men burned the flags while in the area of tents for Occupy Charlotte, which is located on the lawn area of City Hall on East Trade Street, according to the police report.

Occupy Charlotte released a statement to NewsChannel 36 saying that the flag burning incident does reflect the people or message of their group.

They're supposed to come out to the Rose Parade in Pasadena this New Year's

Hopefully a horde of them will protest and run amok, it might liven thing up and be good for ratings.

The flag burning was wrong though.

In every group of people, whether they are Occupiers or Tea Partiers, Christians or Muslims, Democrats or Republicans, there will be a few extreme radicals that do or say things that do not reflect the feelings or actions of the whole group.

So, what exactly is your point?

Typo in that article?

Occupy Charlotte released a statement to NewsChannel 36 saying that the flag burning incident does reflect the people or message of their group. The statement goes on to stay that Occupy Charlotte is no longer affiliated with the camp at East Trade Street, where the flag burning incident took place.

Texas v. Johnson 1989
The Government may not prohibit the verbal or nonverbal expression of an idea merely because society finds the idea offensive or disagreeable, even where our flag is involved. Nor may a State foster its own view of the flag by prohibiting expressive conduct relating to it, since the Government may not permit designated symbols to be used to communicate a limited set of messages. Moreover, this Court will not create an exception to these principles protected by the First Amendment for the American flag alone. Pp. 410-422.

Burning your own flag is like spitting on the threshhold of your own house...you just don't insult yourself in such a manner - No matter what - family is family...and a nation that spits on itself will not survive - do the flag burners not understand that - Once they tear down the establishement THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO REPLACE IT WITH- It will be from the frying pan into the fire. If they want change - let them dedicate their lives to running our institutions - let them sacrifice their time to a better world - but that would mean work and real social repsonsiblity...and real effort -- but it is easier to stand and whine - and burn your own banner - stupid!
